Joyce Paijens

As a former fashion designer with a background in classical painting, Joyce Paijens is fascinated by people, the human figure and portraiture. In her work, she searches for layers within a person — the emotions, character and stories beneath the surface.

Her fashion background shapes her sense of colour, form and personality. In 2020, she returned to painting, refreshing her skills at the Florence Academy of Art.

Since moving to Olhão in 2023, the Atlantic light and shades of blue have become part of her visual language.

She creates portraits, nudes, seascapes and city views in oil, pencil and mixed pastel.
