BeTween Association
The BeTween Association promotes cultural spaces and spaces for the creation of contemporary art. Additionally, it stages group and solo exhibitions by regional artists, and is known for combining painting, drawing and sculpture exhibitions with talks, book launches, workshops and a bookshop, across rural and urban settings in the town-country dialectic. It cooperates with public and private bodies, individual artists and local, national or international associations.
José Bivar (1953) is a plastic artist with strong cultural and artistic ties to the Algarve, where he lives. He began organising various events in the region, notably at the Bela Mandil Cultural and Environmental Centre, often referred to as “Bela Mandil Chalet”, in 1975 and continues to do so to the present day.
Paulo Serra (1965) is a plastic artist and member of the BeTween association, was born in Pechão. His extensive portfolio is well-known in the Algarve and in various regional Portuguese and international capitals. He has held several artist residencies at the Bela Mandil Cultural Centre.
Joana Rego (1973) is a biologist and plastic artist, director of the Bela Mandil Cultural and Environmental Centre, and she works in environmental education and photography.
Afonso Bivar (1992) is a plastic artist working in illustration and street art. He is a member of the BeTween association, with several artist residencies at the Bela Mandil Cultural Centre.
