This exhibition features experimental work produced in “Drawing A” classes (Years 10 and 12) at Francisco Fernandes Lopes Secondary School. These exercises are essential for moving from theory to artistic practice, serving as a living laboratory for experimentation.
Rather than simply representing reality faithfully, these exercises serve as a space for artistic exploration, where mistakes become part of the creative process and pupils are challenged to discover their own visual identity.
By testing the limits of each material, pupils cease to be mere observers and become active creators, able to turn pure technique into an expressive, conceptual and personal language.
The works on display also include self-portrait canvases, developed from reflection on the work of artist Helena Almeida (1934–2018), “Pinturas Habitadas”, created in the 1970s.
This space also showcases charcoal drawings on larger supports, exploring the different expressive possibilities of natural charcoal sticks. From a common starting point, distinct results emerge, revealing the singularity of each process and each perspective.
